BIRD’S EYE

concretized

            the bird awakens

burrowed in the slush
that melts into the salt

            poured from the fallen
sigh of the soil.

immutable

she will widen her
wings where this

cannot reach

into the lightest
blue of first
dawn-waking

beyond the close-minded
beyond the far-fetched

high

above the towering
i
it cries
will know you.

cradled in the
elder tree

the one whose
bark has witnessed
the before

whose leaves
have shed
the after

there in this
space

the eye begins

 a lingering rustle axels
over the branch

beholden to her

the feather-spoked iris

weaves with certitude

the betrothal

of the unlikely
and the dreamer.
