THE WORLD IS ALWAYS ABOUT TO END
Light dapples the playground
through maple branches, bending
to the wind’s routine. I should
be amazed by the newness of the bud,
but the dusty bones of so many
I’ve loved are hiding. The howled cage
at the back of my throat opens. I wish
I could inhale the slow o of apotheosis.
Pull my body close to glass. I miss
the sun-drenched eye. I feed
the hungry ghosts. They always want
more, like sequestered brides.
