David A. Goodrum

The Approach of Nothing

in our weighted pockets
calcified phrases

to be strewn across the sand
the empty shells of ideas

loves and other necessary fictions
offered to the undertow

to be filled
by small hermits

and gently carried
into the metronome of waves

to seek a distant shore
where passersby      who graze the night

pulled by songs of rushing water
listen               unafraid
