ARTIST STATEMENT

It took me many years to realize that my art is in fact a collaboration between me and the art itself. So rather than the frustration of not accepting that, I simply give the art a vote in what's being created. Sometimes, no matter what it is, the painting or drawing doesn't want to be what I have in mind. I then collaborate with the canvas or paper to decide what it would prefer. We don't always agree but the times we have found a middle ground to work from have been rewarding, in my mind. Both about the work itself and my willingness to work through my neurotic state, in my neurotic state rather than trying to be someone I'm not. As a result, I have had success. Over a thousand of my paintings and drawings have been published in both print and ezine periodicals and the covers of these as well. I am a writer as well and just finished my tenth book, a novel, The Volchev File. My art has graced the covers of all these works as well (https://wjacksavage.org) I come from a background of radio announcing and news and also as an actor and Educator. I have been retired for some years now. For the most part, it's been everything I hoped it would be. Moreover, it has allowed me to concentrate on my art and my writing and leave the rest of it behind. I am Honored to be featured in such a distinguished periodical.
