Adam Day

Elegy

                  After Simone Muench

My shadow sleeps
with wolves

in an empty corner
of a house and whirling

snow. Shaking animal
life, bringing flame

from the other shore,
transformed into a howl.

This body at the edge
of breath with its

hundreds of corridors
so that when the time

comes there will be
this tongue that can

no longer pass
beyond its husk.
