with butter knife and blindfold.
Farm in gravel. Barter with empty pockets.
Beg for old age, fully aware of
the fistfuls of dirt still to follow.
Bake in the sand.
Work eager bait onto the hook of being
wrong about most things, and fish
in self-deluded fog at the lake, restocked each day,
where little white lies must be tossed back.
