little maple vignette
twined
into the palm of the night

around us turns the whole world
new storms
and drowned

tiny beach houses
now at sea

we graced the summer sand

what rage can possibly
hurl our anchors

our bookmarks in the limestone
our white flags
like splits of new daybreaks

can I call you soul?

Malene Lotz was a modern ballet dancer living and teaching movement in New York. She is Danish, currently living in Denmark north of Copenhagen, and is transforming into a poet.
